This book is a very comprehensive guide for do-it-yourself wedding planners! It covers every aspect of weddings, breaking it down by cost and showing what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, and where corners can be cut to save money.
If you're thinking about planning your own wedding, this is THE book to buy to guarantee a picture perfect day. My only misgiving about this guide is that it may not be useful to those who are unable to follow through on a strict timeline of getting things done.

The books offers simple, colorful pictures to indulge yourself in and set up in the most organized fashion. I was surprised at how much information it actually offered once I started reading the book. The text goes beyond the design efforts of the wedding and takes you into the scheduling of the wedding, the tasks that will be developed throughout the preparation of the wedding, wedding day preparations, tips on selecting the the venue & dealing with the people involved and just basic advice on every single detail. I found the book very helpful since it was seperated in different chapters according to the type of venues. The floral ideas were amazing since it offered simplicity using color tactics rather than quantity tactics. I only wished there were more weddings per each theme to compare. Such as three different 'vineyard' weddings, so it would offer more ideas within each particular theme.

As a bride-to-be, I have read multiple books on planning and saving money. My fiancé and I are trying to squeeze every penny, while still having a memorable event for ourselves and our guests. I have found that many of the money-saving tips in wedding-planning books are often impractical or more hassle than they are worth in the end. Tracy Leigh's book, How to Plan Your Wedding and Save Thousands (Without Going Crazy), let me know that sometimes it's okay to do things myself--like making favors, arranging flowers, baking a cake, creating invitation or decorating. Not everything needs to be done by a professional. The Web sites she provides are invaluable--it's hard to find good discount wedding Web sites because any bridal vendor wants you to use their recommendations.

The helpful lists and checklists can be copied and handed out to members of a wedding party, or anyone else who may be helping you plan. The concise language makes an easy-to-use guide for each person involved, while still keeping everything interesting. Leigh's questions for each vendor hit on topics I would have completely overlooked--she reminds readers that you can't assume a vendor knows exactly what you want, and you can't assume they have what you want. If you're on a tight budget for your wedding, you NEED this book. If you have an unlimited budget, read it anyways. Some of the personal touches you can create for your special day are perfect for everyone on any budget.

This practical book describes how to plan a wedding. The author, Tracy Leigh, empathaize the idea of setting an overall budget and individual item expense budgets ahead of time as a task that will keep your wedding budget on plan.
This guide is very well written and researched especially to a bride who is a novice at wedding planning. Christian and Jewish wedding traditions are mentioned in areas such as wedding ceremony planning. Wedding details that include location, catering, wardrobe, entertainment, flowers and accessories give the reader a sense of options to choose from. Advice such as to how to choose the size, formality level, method, location, photographer, invitations and music are in this guide that also includes online wedding vendor contact information. Tracy Leigh used resourcefulness to help the reader select wedding apparel that would be elegant, yet affordable. The idea of renting tents, dresses or other supplies can save money for their special day.
This book contains options for very stately, elegant weddings, more informal weddings or justice of the peace officiated ceremonies.

In a copycat world of imitating successful books -- the millionth weight-loss book, the umpteenth reassuring guide for anxious brides -- Drs. Sherven and Sniechowski have filled a void by treating both men and women, brides and grooms, as co-partners. It may be heresy to say that the white-attired princess on the white horse is no longer the only star of the wedding process, but it's a long-awaited heresy that meshes beautifully with today's reality -- the reality that the vast majority of men and women who marry DO share in the wedding process. This book is for those sharers, those individuals determined to be partners before their wedding, during their wedding and for the rest of their lives.

This utterly indispensable book for married-couples-to-be will do wonders for lowering the divorce rate. I used this book to plan my wedding that happened in May '07, which was done without a wedding planner. My wedding was held in a historic, beautiful synagogue and historic beautiful hotel (similar to the country club chapter). So many of our guests have commented directly to us or my parents about how beautiful our wedding was -- and I have to say this book helped me more than any other. Simple Stunning Weddings guided most of my decor decisions over the 9 months that I spent planning our wedding.

For starters, I used this book to communicate with my florist -- it was extremely helpful for that. So many of my friends and family have commented on how stunning our flowers were -- we used fresh seasonal flowers in colors that suited our venue but they were of a style and in containers similar to the ones presented here.

In addition, her ideas about where to splurge and where to save for a given venue were invaluable. Not only did they save money, but they also saved time and stress.

Her suggestion of bringing old family photos into a reception site was one of the biggest hits of my wedding -- both my husband and I found old photographs of our family going back to the early 20th century and had them displayed on a large table. People couldn't stop talking about them -- not just our relatives, but friends too. That suggestion cost us about $50 -- how great is that? Her idea to hire a swing band to harmonize with the classic space was another giant hit -- the dance floor was full until the band stopped at midnight.

I didn't copy her ideas, rather I adapted them for the synagogue and ballrooms that we used -- and I found it quite easy to do so. It is so easy to be overwhelmed by all the choices around planning a wedding -- everything from table linens to wineglasses to lighting to picking a band -- it was wonderful to have her photos and text to guide and influence our decisions.

I spent nine months being fairly wedding obsessed while planning our wedding -- I purchased many books and magazines, spent lots of time figuring out our options and looking around for ideas, and I have to say that the ideas presented here were the best resource I found. My other favorite book (in a very different vein) was Bridal Bargains -- it's discussions on how to hire vendors from photographers to caterers to dress shops informed and influenced all of our vendor selections. By doing so I hired great vendors right away and avoided many of the hassles that my friends went through while planning their weddings. I'm not sure how much money I saved through their suggestions, but they really do understand what good vendors look like -- which was tremendously helpful.

This is the best book on the market to help organize a wedding! It is wonderfully organized and the photos are fantastic. The "to-do" lists are really helpful and i used every section of this book to pull together my wedding. I have given this book to several of my bride-to-be friends and all of them have loved it. It really is the perfect shower present. I can't recommend this highly enough--for anyone planning a wedding or needing a gift for a favored bride.

If you don't have online access, then this could be a good resource for you. However, most of the information in this book can be found online at sites like theknot, weddingchannel and ultimatewedding. I was hoping for some new information and insight, but this just seemed like a recycled version of their online website.

As relationship trainers, motivational speakers, and workshop leaders, the authors of this book have credentials. Drs. Sherven & Sniechowski wrote Be Loved for Who You Really Are (St. Martin's Press, 2003), The New Intimacy (Health Communications, 1997), and Opening to Love 365 Days a Year (Health Communications, 2000). Married since 1988, they also have the personal experience of marriage longevity in the difficult-to-navigate labyrinth of relationships. Their co-authored book, The Smart Couple's Guide has personality as well as practical advice.
Divided into fifteen chapters, Drs. Sherven & Sniechowski thoroughly discuss aspects of the wedding plan. The authors offer true-life cases from hundreds of couples as examples of those who chose to plan their wedding together. These examples are used in a variety of settings: from "Popping the Question" to "To Change Names, or Not." Dispersed throughout the book are insights from the authors' own co-created wedding. I'm in my 40s and getting married for the first--and only--time in a few months. My fiance was feeling a little left out of the planning process, so I bought 2 copies of this book, one for him and one for myself. It's been a great discussion tool, and we've both made lots of notes all over the pages. The book covers the details of wedding planning but with a focus on keeping the relationship and the meaning of the celebration central. No matter what other planning guides you own -- and you will need others that do go bananas over flowers and bridesmaids' dresses if that's your thing, and God knows there are plenty of them out there-- please pick up a copy, or two, of this one. It lets you convert the stress and commericalism of planning your wedding into a relationship-deepening experience.
